The ERA coalition compromises of an expansive list of organisations and individuals who support the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Headed by Jessica Neuwirth, The coalition aim to bridge the gap between generations of feminists in order to build a strong campaign to have this important need for all women throughout The United States finally realized.
The coalition is supported by a very long list of influential activists and celebrities, who have been tirelessly using their platform to launch discussions on the ERA. Just last month, Patricia Arquette started a change.org
petition which asks signees to join her in compelling lawmakers to vote to ratify the ERA. So far, the petition has garnered over 112,000 signatures. She also used her platforms to discuss the importance of the ERA at the White House’s United State of Women Summit in June 2016, the first of many more to come. I have been supporting Patricia Arquette via my social media platforms and consider it an honor to be doing so!
Other supporters of the ERA are Meryl Streep, who famously sent copies of Jessica Neuwirth’s book ‘Equal Means Equal’ to every member of congress in 2015, Cyndi Lauper, who donated proceeds from her recent North Carolina concert to repeal the state’s HB2, a transphobic ‘bathroom bill’, which allows for discriminatory policies based on gender identity and bathroom use, Jennifer Lawrence who is at the forefront of many discussions about pay inequality in America and Sara Bareillis who’s pledge to support the ERA gained over 4000 likes on her Facebook page.
