To quote the amazing Patricia Arquette: “Badass Artist and Activist Natalie White @marchforERA was arrested for painting ERA NOW on Capitol steps#EqualRights” @PattyArquette
My surrender was arranged for midnight Thursday night\friday morning.
I showed up with my friends Frank and Sophie. We went from my boyfriends house to the Capitol Police Station at 119 D street northeast in a lyft. My boyfriend couldn’t couldn’t go because he has a stay away order from the Capitol because he poured money on congress when they were voting on the dark bill. We drove past the constitution center in DC where we read Susan B. Anothony’s quote on a huge banner hanging outside the constitution center reading, “We shall some day be heeded, and when we shall have our amendment to the Constitution of the United States, everybody will think it was always so.”
The prosecutor wanted to get a stay away order on me that I would be able to go to any government building but i just got a stay away order from the Capitol Building. I have to call once a week to tell them that I won’t be running away and I have to show up for arraignment September 26th at the courthouse in DC.
The way I see it, that building is where the laws are changed. It’s where we have a do nothing congress. Every year since 1982 when the ERA failed, it has been reintroduced into congress- and they have yet to vote on it. Our constitution says “We the people of the United States”. Aren’t I one of those people?
