Ava Duvernay’s All Women Directorial Team
Ava Duvernay & Oprah have recently announced that they have partnered up to create an original series for OWN. Duvernay is writing, directing and producing the drama and Oprah is set to have a recurring role. The 13 episode series, ‘Queen Sugar’ is set on a sugarcane farm in Saint Josephine, New Orleans and tells the story of a family of women who have to run the farm after their father’s death. Retina Wesley (True Blood) has been rumoured to play the lead character, Nova Bordelon.
The most exciting part of this new series is that Duvernay has hired an ‘all women directorial team’ (Do any of my readers have an opinion on having all female teams?) AMA! (Ask me Anything) – Natalie White #MarchforERA
“It’s like a family drama and I’m real excited about it. I jokingly say I’m getting my ‘Shonda’ on but I don’t even know how she juggles all those shows because this show is wearing me out—in the best way. It’s a lot, but it’s fun. It’s like a 13-hour film”
