Gil-Scott Heron – The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.
At any point that I feel like I need motivation I listen to this song. It helps clear my head and laser focus on what a revolution really means and really needs.
The song was initially recorded for his 1970 record ‘Small Talk at 125th and Lenox’ and re-recorded for ‘Pieces of a Man’ in 1971. The lyrics read as if they were written yesterday. It also highlights how much progress we as a society are yet to make.
This 2014 article by Marcus Baram details the origins of the song. Worth a read!
