I feel that Justice Sotomayor is an inspiration to all women across all races, for being the first Latina Supreme Court Judge, and additionally being one of the more liberal Supreme Court justices, who believes in equality and women’s rights.
In a recent article by The Santa Fe New Mexican at a St. John’s College Q&A, Justice Sotomayor mentioned how much more complicated it is to become a Supreme Court judge today:
Sotomayor expressed admiration for [Justices Louis Brandeis and Earl Warren] but said the law is “exponentially more complicated than it was back then.” She said it is still possible to have people who have never been judges before, as long as they have a good knowledge of the law. “I don’t think you could have an Earl Warren, [a former California governor appointed by President Dwight Eisenhower] who wasn’t even a lawyer at all.”
Please write to me and submit names of people who fall into a similar category as Justice Sotomayer.
