Sheryl WuDunn: Our century’s greatest injustice
“The central moral challenge in the 19th century was slavery. In the 20th century it was totalitarianism. In this century it is the oppression of women and girls throughout the world.”
“Demographers have shown there are anywhere between 60 million to 100 million missing females in the current population.”
“In the last half century more girls were discriminated to death than all the people on all the battlefields in the 20th century.” (oh my god I am shivering)
“Sometimes its because of the sonogram, girls get aborted before they are even born.”
This is the most chilling 18 minutes and 15 seconds I’ve been through in a long time. This is informative- everyone needs to hear this no matter how scary it is. The solution comes about 2/3rd’s into the talk.
Larry Summers when he was chief economist at the world bank said, ‘It may well be that the highest return on investment in the developing world is in girls’ education.”
Ok, well- I’m motivated now!
